How to Convert WEBP to PNG

The converter is designed for one clear task: changing WEBP images into compatible PNG files.

  1. Add your WEBP files. Select, drag and drop, or paste a WEBP image from your clipboard. Add up to 20 files, with a 50 MB limit for each source.
  2. Review the output. Check each local file preview, choose an optional resize setting, and rename individual PNG outputs when needed.
  3. Convert in your browser. Select Convert to PNG. The image conversion runs locally in the browser instead of uploading the selected files to a conversion server.
  4. Download the results. Save each PNG separately or download the completed batch as one ZIP archive.

Why Convert WEBP to PNG?

WEBP is efficient for websites, but some editors, presentation tools, upload forms, and older applications do not accept it. PNG is often the more practical choice when you need broad compatibility, lossless storage of the decoded image, or a transparent background for further editing.

Converting a WEBP file to PNG does not improve the source image or restore detail removed by earlier lossy compression. It changes the file format so the decoded image can be used in a PNG-compatible workflow.

Private, Browser-Based Image Conversion

The converter processes selected images inside your browser. The selected WEBP files and generated PNG output are not intentionally uploaded to our servers as part of the conversion process.

“Local conversion” applies to image processing. The website still connects to servers to load the page and may use analytics or advertising services. The distinction is explained in our Security and Privacy Policy pages.

Batch Conversion and ZIP Downloads

You can process up to 20 WEBP files in one batch. Files are converted in sequence to reduce browser memory pressure, and each source file is limited to 50 MB. When the batch finishes, download individual PNG files or create one ZIP archive.

Preview, Resize, and Rename PNG Output

Each queued file includes a preview with its source dimensions and file size. Before converting, you can keep the original dimensions, resize the batch by percentage, or set width and height values. The output preview and actual PNG size appear after encoding.

You can also change the base name of each PNG without changing its file type. Unsupported filename characters are rejected, and the .png extension is added automatically.

Resolution, Transparency, and Image Quality

By default, the converter keeps the decoded image dimensions. If you enable Resize output, it uses the requested safe dimensions instead. Supported alpha transparency is retained in the PNG output. PNG uses lossless compression for the resulting image, but it cannot recreate detail that is missing from the source WEBP.

Browser conversion may remove metadata such as camera details, location fields, or color-profile information. Always review a converted file before using it in a color-critical or archival workflow.

Animated WEBP Files

Animated WEBP files contain multiple frames. The safe default exports the first frame as one static PNG. In browsers that support full WEBP frame decoding, All frames (ZIP) exports numbered PNG frames plus a timing manifest. The result is a ZIP of separate images, not an animated PNG.

WEBP and PNG at a Glance

  • WEBP: designed for efficient web delivery and can use lossy or lossless compression, transparency, and animation.
  • PNG: uses lossless compression, supports transparency, and is widely accepted by image editors and general-purpose applications.
  • File size: a PNG is often larger than its WEBP source because the formats use different compression methods.
  • Best choice: keep WEBP for efficient web delivery when supported; use PNG when compatibility, editing, or static transparency is more important.

Common Questions

Are my WEBP files uploaded?

No. The conversion logic processes the selected images locally in your browser. Normal website, analytics, and advertising traffic is separate from the image conversion path.

How many files can I convert at once?

You can add up to 20 WEBP files in one batch. Each file can be up to 50 MB.

Can I convert PNG to WEBP here?

No. This page accepts WEBP input and creates PNG output only.

Can I download several converted files together?

Yes. After conversion, use the ZIP option to collect the completed PNG files in one archive.

Does an animated WEBP remain animated?

No. Choose the first frame as a static PNG or, in a supported browser, export all frames as numbered PNG files in a ZIP. The converter does not create APNG output.
