The converter follows a short browser-based workflow: choose valid WEBP files, review the queue, convert locally, and download the PNG results. This page explains each stage and what “local processing” means.
Step 1: Choose WEBP Files
Open the WEBP to PNG Converter and choose files from your device, drag them into the drop area, or activate Paste WEBP from clipboard after copying a WEBP image.
- Input format: WEBP
- Maximum batch: 20 files
- Maximum source size: 50 MB per file
- Output format: PNG
The file picker is limited to WEBP, and the converter also validates the file type and WEBP signature. A PNG or another renamed file is not accepted as valid WEBP input.
Step 2: Validate the Queue
Before conversion, the tool checks the number of files, source size, format, and decoded image dimensions. Files that fail a check are skipped with a message explaining the problem.
Each accepted file shows a local preview, its source dimensions, and its size. You can set a safe output name and review the dimensions that will be used after an optional percentage or width-and-height resize.
If an animated WEBP is selected, choose the default first-frame PNG or, when supported by the browser, all numbered frames in a ZIP.
Step 3: Decode and Convert Locally
Select Convert to PNG after reviewing the queue. For static output, the browser decodes the WEBP, draws the requested dimensions to a canvas, and creates a PNG. Files are processed sequentially rather than all at once.
For All frames (ZIP), a compatible browser decoder reads each animation frame locally, applies the same resize rules, and creates numbered PNG images. Protective limits apply to the frame count, total frame pixels, and aggregate output size.
The converter does not intentionally send the selected image or resulting PNG to our servers. Local conversion does not make the whole website offline: the page, analytics, advertising, and other website resources can still make normal network requests.
Step 4: Review the Result
A successfully converted file is marked Converted. The output panel shows the actual PNG dimensions and encoded size. The result keeps the decoded dimensions unless resizing was requested and retains supported transparency, but converting to PNG cannot restore detail missing from a lossy source. Browser conversion may also remove image metadata or embedded color-profile information.
Step 5: Download PNG Files
Download each completed PNG separately. When several files are ready, use the ZIP option to collect the converted results in one archive. ZIP support is loaded only when you request that download.
Browser Memory and Cleanup
The page uses temporary browser memory while files are selected, decoded, previewed, and prepared for download. Removing a file, clearing the queue, replacing an output, or leaving the page ends the converter’s use of the relevant temporary object references. The browser and operating system control the exact timing of memory reclamation.
Animated WEBP Files
An animated WEBP contains multiple frames. The default creates one static PNG from the first frame. In browsers with compatible ImageDecoder support, the all-frame option creates numbered PNG files and a JSON timing manifest inside a ZIP. This does not create an APNG or preserve animation as one playable image.

Process Questions
Are selected files uploaded?
No. The conversion path operates locally in the browser.
Why might a valid WEBP be rejected?
The file may exceed the size, count, pixel, or browser dimension limit, be damaged, or use data the browser cannot decode.
Can I add PNG files as input?
No. The current converter accepts WEBP input only.
Can I process more than 20 files?
Divide a larger collection into separate batches of no more than 20 files.
